Originally initiated in 1974 by Shaikh Sarmad Brody in San Antonio, Texas and given higher initiations by Pir Viilayat Khan of the Sufi Order shortly thereafter,
After 23 years of teaching art at North Arkansas College in Harrison, Arkansas, he retired
from campus life, but not from teaching. When not touring and leading sufi camps and retreats or working privately with initiates, he conducts painting workshops, and is a commissioned artist.

Murshid Khabir Kitz started leading dances of Universal Peace and classes in San Antonio and Austin.
He first learned the Mevlevi Turn with Rashad Feild and later with Jalauddin Loras. In 1980 he was initiated into the Sufi Ruhaniat
as a khalif by Murshid Moinneddin Jablonski.
In 1981 he and his family settled in the Ozark Mountains of Arkansas
and started Heartsong Retreat Center. Seventeen years later he was initiated as a Murshid by Pir Moinneddin.
